LOLLAPALOOZA Or LOLLAPALOSER?
July 6, 2003Lollapalooza organizer Perry Farrell of JANE'S ADDICTION has dismissed the discouraging press surrounding this year's tour, saying that it's not fair to single out Lollapalooza as the only major traveling festival experiencing slow advance ticket sales.
Speaking to Kevin C. Johnson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for the paper's Saturday (July 5) edition, Farrell said, "The music industry has gone into a slump. It's not just Lollapalooza. It's everyone across the board. You name an act — I won't name an act — but there's not one act that's not suffering when it comes to what expectations were.
"Lollapalooza is dead-even with everyone at the top echelon. We're doing fantastic in most areas. And wherever we might have a snag, every tour has a snag in that exact same region."
When asked about the tour's original opening date in Ionia, Michigan, which was reportedly cancelled because of a lack of ticket sales, Farrell remained firm in the assertion that the cancellation was the result of the venue not being able to handle the logistics of the show.
"We wanted to do it right," he said. Read more.
